Definition of Job Application Letter
A job application letter is a letter containing a request to work in an institution, company or limited liability company (PT), which generally has sections containing personal identity, services that can be performed, education, to a description of expertise and experience (Kemdikbud, 2017 , p. 1). The section that contains personal identity, education, expertise, and experience is also known as the applicant’s qualifications.

In line with the opinion above, Triyatna (2014, p. 95) states that a job application letter is a letter made by a job seeker or applicant sent to a company or institution with the hope of getting a position or job in accordance with the job vacancies offered.

Making a job application letter really depends on the type of vacancy, institution, and even the advertisement of the job vacancy itself. Even so, basically a job application letter has the same basic form based on general systematics that can be used to apply for any job.

Only the contents must be adjusted to each available vacancy. Meanwhile, the parts of a job application letter or the structure of a job application letter will be explained in the presentation below.

Job Application Letter Systematics
As previously stated, the application to work in a place really depends on the type of vacancy for each. But all types of job application letters have the same basic form, framework, systematics, or structure.

According to the Ministry of Education and Culture Team (2017, p. 16) the systematics of a job application letter includes: Place and date of writing of the letter, attachments and matters, mailing address, opening greeting, opening paragraph, content, closing, closing greeting, signature and full name. Below is an explanation of each systematic part of a job application letter.

Place and date of writing the letter
To find out when and where the application letter was made. This section is usually placed in the upper right corner without a period, because it is not a sentence.

Notify how many attachments are included, for example the application is completed by the identity and qualifications of the applicant as many as 4 sheets, then the example is as follows:

In order to be a good and correct cover letter, don’t abbreviate attachments to “lamp” or “lamp.”

Mailing address
Of course, what is meant is the address to which the application letter is sent, which means it will contain the name of the recipient and the address of the institution. Here are some things to pay attention to when writing a mailing address in a job application.

Job application letters are official letters, meaning that we are not just writing to someone, therefore, the correct job application letter will not use “to”.
The address should be no longer than three lines to shorten the body of the letter.
Positions do not use gender calls such as Mr or Mrs.
The text description “Street” in the address may not be abbreviated.
Mailing addresses are not sentences, so don’t use periods at the end of each line.

It is a greeting or salutation that usually starts with “With respect,” to start a formal job application letter.

Opening paragraph
Is the main paragraph to express self-declaration. That is, if a job advertisement includes a request for applicants who are recent graduates or fresh graduates, and we happen to be recent graduates, we can indirectly include them here.

In other words, the opening paragraph can be the main bridge of dialogue between the job application letter and the job advertisement. This is important so that the institution or company we are applying for feels valued because we don’t just make the same cover letter for all companies. In addition, matching the needs of job vacancies with our profile will also increase the potential to be accepted for these vacancies.

For example, here is an example of a job advertisement and a job application letter opening greeting that speaks well of the advertisement.

Sukses Mandiri opens job vacancies to fill junior administrative staff positions. Fresh graduates are preferred, hardworking, and have an educational background in business management, office administration, or informatics.

The contents of a job application letter consist of the following things.

Personal identity
in the form of name, place, date of birth, address, last education and other things can be added according to the application requirements. In writing the information, the initial letters of words should be lowercase, for example, as follows.

Purpose and objectives
is a description of the reason for the sender or applicant for writing a letter.
Declare attachments

Closing
In closing, the job applicant should show enthusiasm or hope for the intended job.

Language Elements of Job Application Letters
The Ministry of Education and Culture Team (2017, p. 30) states that a correct job application letter will follow a number of linguistic elements which include the points below.

Use good and correct language
Use polite words
Using a clear, concise and concise/informative introduction, and right on target.
Keep writing clean, easy to read, according to spelling rules.

Standard variety language.

Types of Job Applications
The Ministry of Education and Culture Team (2018, p. 30) explained that based on the type of creation, there are two types of job application letters. The two types of job applications are as follows.

A job application letter combined with a curriculum vitae. In this way, the curriculum vitae includes the contents of the letter because the contents are combined. This method is also called the combined model.
Cover letter separated from curriculum vitae. In this way, the curriculum vitae is an appendix and this method is called a separate model.
How to Make a Job Application Letter
According to the Ministry of Education and Culture Team (2017, p. 30) the correct way to make a job application letter is to pay attention to the following things.

Use good and correct language
The writing format is neatly arranged with clear language
Job application letters should be handwritten (manually) for several institutions that request them (applications for prospective civil servants usually have to be written manually).
Complete with various data needed by companies or institutions that offer job vacancies
Attach supporting documents such as certificates, work certificates, etc.
Steps to write a job application letter
In addition, there are steps taken to simplify and ensure that the systematics, content, and language used are good and effective. Here are the steps.

Write the structure or elements of a job application letter in accordance with the systematics first. Each part can be filled by one main sentence first.
Develop the entire section that has been written before, develop the main sentence into paragraphs or full paragraphs with descriptions. Ignore things that seem wrong like spelling, ineffective sentences, etc. Spill all your ideas first without the slightest hesitation.
Reread and pay attention to the various elements and language that is there and then improve it, such as standard language, spelling, effective sentences, etc.
